St. Elizabeth uses 13-point run to overcome Friends

ALAPOCAS – St. Elizabeth’s boys basketball team trailed Wilmington Friends, 41-37, early in the fourth quarter of the nonconference matchup Feb. 10, but the shorthanded Vikings would not be denied. A three-point shot by Jaden Dickerson sparked a 13-point run that propelled the Vikings to a 53-48 win.

St. Elizabeth played the game without two of its three seniors. Guy DeBonaventura is out with a hand injury, and Nate Thomas was unavailable for personal reasons, but the younger lineup responded against the Quakers, who are enjoying a solid season. Read more »

Three score in double figures as St. Elizabeth boys topple shorthanded Sanford

HOCKESSIN – The St. Elizabeth boys’ basketball team showed up at Sanford School on the afternoon of Feb. 8 to face a Warriors team that had won 10 straight after opening the season 1-4. But the team on the court for Sanford barely resembled the usual cast of players, as several members of the varsity squad sat on the bench in street clothes.

That did not matter to the Vikings, who were in need of a win after dropping four of their last five. They took advantage of their shorthanded hosts and left with a 67-42 win. Junior Jordan Brown, who led St. Elizabeth with 17 points, said they couldn’t worry about who and who was not playing for Sanford. Read more »

Vikings clutch from the line in road win at Sallies

WILMINGTON – The 10th-ranked St Elizabeth Vikings shot 25 of 29 from the foul line to pull off the huge road win against No. 8 Salesianum, 59-51, on Jan. 6. It was a cold night, but the Vikings’ free-throw shooting was hot all night. Read more »

Colonials’ fourth-quarter surge dooms Vikings in 61-50 loss

NEW CASTLE – St. Elizabeth was in control for most of its nonconference boys basketball game Jan 3 at William Penn, but the Colonials used their height advantage to mount the comeback and defeated the Vikings, 61-50. Vikings boys smother Hodgson, improve to 5-1

WILMINGTON – St. Elizabeth jumped out to a 17-8 lead after the first quarter and was never challenged on the way to a 70-22 win over Hodgson in boys nonconference basketball on Dec. 21 at the St. E Center. Vikings pull away in fourth, capture A.I. season-opening hoops tournament

GREENVILLE – St. Elizabeth turned a two-point halftime deficit into a two-point lead during the third quarter, then opened the fourth on a tear on the way to a 57-44 win over A.I. duPont on Dec. 2 to take the Tiger Tip-Off boys basketball tournament. The Vikings improved to 2-0 on the season’s opening weekend.

The score was 36-34 Vikings as the game entered its final eight minutes. That is where St. Elizabeth took control in what had been, to that point, a very close contest. Read more »

Strong second half carries Vikings to season-opening win

GREENVILLE – The St Elizabeth Vikings had to find a way to stop the Tatnall Hornets three-point barrage, and a second half press did the trick. The Vikings outscored the Hornets, 40-21, in the second half to take home a 70-52 win in the A.I. duPont Tiger Tip-Off tournament opening round on Dec. 1. Read more »

Cropper scores four times as Vikings roll in football opener

WILMINGTON — Junior Chris Cropper rushed for four touchdowns Thursday night at St. Elizabeth opened the 2016 football season with a convincing 49-0 win over McKean in the DFRC Kickoff Classic at Baynard Stadium.

Cropper, who did not play until the second quarter, found success behind an offensive line that provided him opportunities all night. Read more »
