Auks fall to Lake Forest in field hockey quarterfinals

CLAYMONT – Four different players scored for Lake Forest as the Spartans defeated Archmere, 4-2, in a Division II field hockey quarterfinal-round playoff battle Nov. 11 in Claymont. Lake moves on to the semifinals, where it will meet top-seeded Delmar on Wednesday.

The fifth-seeded Spartans dominated possession in the first half on a cool, breezy day, picking up four penalty corners to none for the No. 4 Auks. Archmere keeper Mady McDougal helped keep the game scoreless with several saves, but the Spartans could be kept off the board for only so long. Read more »

Lake Forest’s lacrosse attack overwhelms St. Elizabeth

ALAPOCAS – St. Elizabeth scored the first two goals of the game, but after that Lake Forest took over in a 16-7 win in nonconference boys lacrosse on April 4 at Alapocas Run.

The game began in a light drizzle that steadily increased in intensity, but that had little effect on the offense. The Vikings opened the scoring while on a man advantage following a penalty on Lake’s Benjamin Moore. Moore had barely left the field before Kevin Marchioni beat the Spartans’ goalkeeper for the 1-0 lead just minutes into the game. Read more »
