A year in prison for stealing from parishioner

Father Michael Angeloni, a former associate pastor at Church of the Holy Child in north Wilmington, is serving one year in prison for stealing more than $300,000 from an elderly parishioner to feed his gambling addiction.

Superior Court Judge Diane Clarke Streett imposed the sentence in late March. Following his release from prison, Father Angeloni will be on probation and will be required to repay the victim $305,425. He also is not to have any contact with the victim, casinos or other gambling establishments; must receive gambling treatment; and must obtain a mental health evaluation and follow any recommended treatment, according to the judge.

Priest pleads guilty to theft from parishioner

WILMINGTON – Father Michael Angeloni, most recently an associate pastor at the Church of the Holy Child in Wilmington, pleaded guilty Nov. 17 in Delaware Superior Court to stealing more than $300,000 from a parishioner.

He will be sentenced Feb. 17 and faces up to 15 years in prison, according to the state Department of Justice.
