Young Holy Cross sisters honored for service in NYC

DOVER — Most school children wouldn’t consider a trip to the hospital as a highlight of their weeklong Easter break.

But Reagan and Payton Garnsey’s April 6 visit to A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children, bearing 50 “Buckets of Love,” was different even for the Holy Cross School students. This time, they were able to present some of the buckets in person. Given privacy guidelines, they were only able to see children go through the gift buckets through video clips, if the children’s families approved. Read more »

One loom at a time, Holy Cross Knitting Club makes a difference

DOVER – It’s a Friday afternoon in December, and most of the students at Holy Cross School have taken off for the weekend. But in a room in the school’s Early Childhood Center, some 70 first- through eighth-graders have gathered in the season of giving to help those who could really use some.

At tables throughout the large room, students laughed and talked as they knitted winter hats. Atop two desks, a pile of hats in a variety of colors steadily grew; there would be more than 100 by the time the meeting ended. Read more »

Reagan Garnsey’s pre-K classmates attend her baby sister’s baptism at Holy Cross in Dover

 DOVER – All the elements required for a baptism were in place at Holy Cross Church on April 4, the Wednesday before Easter. There was the adorable baby, Payton Amelia Garnsey, in her white dress; two beaming parents and big sister; and godparents and other family.

Also in the church, seated next to the baptismal font, were 16 pre-kindergarten students, classmates of Reagan Garnsey, whose sister was the guest of honor. They were there because Reagan’s parents, Angela and Brian, wanted the class and its teacher, Patricia Wegemer, to share in their special day.
