Diocesan pilgrims will stop at Annecy, Rome, Assisi

 

Frankly speaking, the Diocese of Wilmington’s 150th Anniversary Pilgrimage to Annecy and Rome next spring will be all about Francis. Four leaders of the church named Francis, that is, will highlight the journey — Bishop W. Francis Malooly of Wilmington, Pope Francis, St. Francis de Sales and St. Francis of Assisi.

Bishop Malooly will lead the diocesan pilgrimage from April 16-26 next year starting in Annecy, France, where Francis de Sales, the patron saint of the diocese, ministered. Read more »

Healey Education Foundation will fortify diocesan schools for the future

All Saints, St. Mary Magdalen, Immaculate Conception and St. Francis de Sales schools begin partnership with Healey Education Foundation to help sustainability

Four elementary schools are part of a new partnership between the Diocese of Wilmington and the Healey Education Foundation that will help schools sustain their future with improved marketing, fundraising and planning.

The diocese announced the four schools selected for the Healey partnership during the first week of May. They are All Saints in Elsmere, St. Mary Magdalen in Brandywine Hundred, Immaculate Conception in Elkton, Md., and St. Francis de Sales in Salisbury, Md. Read more »

Bishop Malooly honors high school seniors with St. Francis de Sales awards

Bishop Malooly presented the St. Francis de Sales Award medal to 10 seniors from each Catholic high school in the diocese at a Mass and convocation April 20 at St. Elizabeth Church in Wilmington. The award recognizes the students for excellence in faith development, scholarship, service, leadership and citizenship.

The medal features St. Francis de Sales, the patron saint of the Diocese of Wilmington, on one side and the invocation, “St. Francis de Sales, pray for us” on the reverse. Read more »

Viewpoint: Someone to watch over us

January 24 is the feast day of St. Francis de Sales, who is the patron saint of both the Diocese of Wilmington and journalists.

As a Catholic journalist in the diocese, I’m especially grateful this year for the patronage of Francis.

If a patron saint is someone who is believed to protect a particular place or person, St. Francis de Sales has had his work cut out for him in the diocese during the last few years. Read more »
