All Saints will mix arts, religion into STEM Night

ELSMERE — Those who attend STEM Night at All Saints Catholic School on April 27 may notice some differences from last year’s version. The multi-parish school is incorporating religion and the arts into the event, reflecting its new focus on turning STEM — science, technology, engineering and math — into STREAM, adding religion and the arts.

The theme this year is “patterns,” incorporating symmetry, radial relief structures, puzzles and other things that include them, including Mass. Students have been hard at work getting ready to turn All Saints into a STREAM zone. Read more »

All Saints students show off their STEM energy

ELSMERE – “Energy” was the theme of the night on April 7, when All Saints Catholic School presented STEM Night,” and the students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade were full of energy in the hours leading up to the event.

Each of the grade levels – primary, elementary and middle – took over a floor of the school to show off an energy-related topic, a focus of the science, technology, engineering and math curriculum that is front and center at All Saints. Nancy Raymond, a second-grade teacher, said the primary grades concentrated on light. The kindergarteners, for example, created prisms, while the second grade used the sun’s rays to print objects from nature on to dark paper. Read more »

Science education has a new feel at Mount Aviat

CHILDS, Md. – A STEM grant has changed the look and feel of science education at Mount Aviat Academy.

According to the school, Mount Aviat received a science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) grant last spring to implement changes to its classrooms. The school’s science lab now includes an ActivSound enhancement system, ready access to iPads and a set of MacBook laptops, and learner-response devices that allow the students to be connected to the room’s Promethean board – an apple version of a SMART Board.
