Salesianum is the top seed and will open play May 14 at home against William Penn in the second DIAA boys volleyball state tournament. The Sals will be seeking their first state title in the sport.

The Sals and Colonials will get going at 6 p.m. on May 14 at Father Birkenheuer Gymnasium. Tickets are available at https://gofan.co/app/school/DIAA. The winner will play the winner of No. 9 Newark Charter at No. 8 MOT Charter on May 18 at 6 p.m.

The Sals finished the season 16-0. The Colonials, who went 8-7, did not play Salesianum in 2024.

For the second straight year, the Sals did not drop a set during the regular season. They have wins over nine tournament teams, including Cape Henlopen, the third seed who defeated the Sals for the championship last year, and No. 2 Wilmington Charter.

Salesianum, led by longtime coach Jeff Gricol, has a number of weapons. Cody Popp, Andrew Mahoney and Reid Maas are three of their big hitters, and Ronan Landis is one of their setters.

The semifinals are scheduled for May 21 at the home of the higher seed. The final will be played May 23 at Smyrna High School at 6 p.m. Times and sites are subject to change.
