An pro-life billboard is seen outside Emmetsburg, Iowa, Jan. 16, 2020. Iowa Republicans passed a personhood bill in state House March 7, 2024, that would make it a felony to "cause the death" of an "unborn person" -- the bill was shelved later that month. It was reported that the bill did not advance due to concerns about the unintended consequences for IVF. (OSV News photo/Shannon Stapleton, Reuters)

The Delaware Knights of Columbus will lead a prayer vigil at the gravesite of 63 aborted babies on Sept. 14 as part of the National Day of Remembrance for victims of abortion. It will take place at Cathedral Cemetery, 2400 Lancaster Ave., Wilmington, beginning at 8 a.m.

The late Dee Becker, a leader in the pro-life community in Delaware for half a century, was responsible for arranging for the burial and gravestone at Cathedral Cemetery, according to Felix Spitelle, the Knights of Columbus’ state life director.

The Knights’ state council funded the burial and gravestone in 1988. It is located near the Queen of the Apostles crypt. Becker died in 2020 at the age of 93.

The vigil at the cemetery will run until approximately 9:45 a.m. Attendees will be invited to travel to Holy Child Parish in Brandywine Hundred, where the pastor, Father Michael Carrier, will lead an outside prayer service beginning t 10:30 a.m.
