Brenda Burns, a member of St. Joseph’s Parish on French Street in Wilmington, has been appointed the director of the Ministry for Black Catholics. Bishop Malooly announced the appointment on Oct. 15. Burns succeeds Franciscan Father Paul Williams, who was transferred out of the Diocese of Wilmington.

“She follows a line of very dedicated directors, all of whom I have known in my years here,” the bishop said. “I am so appreciative that Brenda has accepted this appointment and does so with her usual enthusiasm.”

Burns is a member of the Diocesan Gospel Choir, and she was named the director of music ministry at St. Joe’s in January 2019. She is trained as a liturgist and has conducted liturgy workshops and other duties at St. Joe’s. She has also served as grand lady of the Knights of Peter Claver at the parish.
