The Global Education Program at Ursuline Academy has been awarded the 2023-24 Moulton Grant for Global Citizenship by the International Coalition of Girls’ Schools (ICGS). The grant recognizes one innovative project proposed by a member school or school team that “advances opportunities for women and girls globally.”

Ursuline received the grant for its joint initiative with its sister school, St. Ursula College Kingsgrove of Sydney, Australia. The project, developed in partnership with the Ursuline Sisters of the Asia Pacific, focused on establishing a community kitchen at Mother of Peace Primary School in Battambang, Cambodia. Through the initiative, village women will capitalize on their culinary skills to help provide nutritious meals for their families and generate their own economic opportunities, gain financial independence and strengthen community support networks, according to Ursuline.

To celebrate this project and honor the Cambodian women’s contributions, Ursuline Academy has produced the Ursuline Global Cookbook. It features recipes contributed by Ursuline community members from 25 countries worldwide, and it is available for sale in the United States and Australia. All proceeds from the cookbook directly support the expansion of programming in Cambodia, tripling the original grant funds awarded by ICGS, the school said.

“Watching the students, the educators, the women and everyone involved connect and grow through this project has been incredible,” said Erin Prada, Ursuline’s director of strategic initiatives and global education. “This project reinforces our mission of fostering global leadership, and its success is a testament to the power of collaboration across our truly unique global network.”

Ursuline Academy’s student team was honored last month at the ICGS international conference in Baltimore.
