For the secular world, Easter is all about brightly colored eggs and chocolate bunnies. For us, Easter represents the fulfillment of the Good News of the Gospel — Jesus, who was crucified, is risen!
Jesus died on the cross for our sins, and God the Father raised Him and made Him the Lord of life and death. In Jesus, love has triumphed over hatred, mercy over cruelty, forgiveness over anger, truth over deception, and life over death.

Bishop Malooly’s 2017 Advent and Christmas schedule announced

The Catholic Diocese of Wilmington has announced Bishop W. Francis Malooly’s Advent and Christmas schedule.

  • On Thursday, December 7, Bishop Malooly will attend the annual Advent prayer service and dinner with the residents of Bayard House, Catholic Charities’ residential program for at-risk, homeless, pregnant and/or newly parenting young women, and their babies. The service and dinner will be held on the campus of St. Elizabeth’s Church in Wilmington, Delaware at 5 p.m.

Sesquicentennial Pilgrimage April 16-26, 2018

Diocesan pilgrims will stop at Annecy, Rome, Assisi

 

Frankly speaking, the Diocese of Wilmington’s 150th Anniversary Pilgrimage to Annecy and Rome next spring will be all about Francis. Four leaders of the church named Francis, that is, will highlight the journey — Bishop W. Francis Malooly of Wilmington, Pope Francis, St. Francis de Sales and St. Francis of Assisi.

Bishop Malooly will lead the diocesan pilgrimage from April 16-26 next year starting in Annecy, France, where Francis de Sales, the patron saint of the diocese, ministered. Read more »

Maryland bishops decry increased restrictions on religious liberty

Maryland’s bishops are sounding an alarm against growing restrictions in religious liberty on federal, state and local levels.

In a statement released Nov. 9 called “The Most Sacred of All Property: Religious Liberty and the People of Maryland,” the bishops state that religious liberty, “a right rooted in our human dignity and protected by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, is being silently and subtly eroded.” In recent years, “there has been a subtle promotion of the idea that religious liberty should be restricted to Sunday morning worship.”
