WILMINGTON – The 10th-ranked Salesianum basketball team struggled for three quarters in its game Jan. 12 against No. 4 Sanford. The Sals trailed, 37-20, heading into the fourth, and the big student crowd was kept silent by the Warriors’ play. Vikings clutch from the line in road win at Sallies

WILMINGTON – The 10th-ranked St Elizabeth Vikings shot 25 of 29 from the foul line to pull off the huge road win against No. 8 Salesianum, 59-51, on Jan. 6. It was a cold night, but the Vikings’ free-throw shooting was hot all night. Read more »

Brown brothers combine for 27 as Sals remain unbeaten with win at Tatnall

GREENVILLE – Salesianum’s boys basketball team shook off a slow start against Tatnall on Dec. 20, finding their stroke and going on to a 52-45 win. The Sals, ranked sixth in the latest 302Sports.com top 10, remained unbeaten with the win at 4-0.

The Sals missed their first six shots, and in between those attempts, the host Hornets picked up a pair of identical baseline three-point shots from Andre Ward. The drought ended when Jack Brown nailed a three of his own. That would start a run of seven points for Salesianum, and the first period ended with the Sals in front, 7-6. Read more »

Brown brothers combine for 31 in Sals win over Quakers

WILMINGTON – Paul Brown scored 19 points and his younger brother Jack added 12 to lead Salesianum to a 57-47 home win over Wilmington Friends in nonconference basketball on Feb. 14.

The Sals got off to a fast start as Paul Brown scored the team’s first five points. Jack Brown then hit back-to-back three-pointers to help Salesianum to an early 11-5 lead. It was 15-9 at the end of one quarter, and the Sals began the second stanza on a roll. Jack Brown drained a three, and Chris Cohill tipped in a missed shot to extend the lead to 22-13 with 6:46 left in the half. Paul Brown added his own triple before the horn, and Salesianum led, 27-20 at the break. Read more »

Brown’s three-pointer caps Sals’ comeback over top-ranked Mount Pleasant

PENNY HILL – With the clock winding down and his team trailing Mount Pleasant by a point, Salesianum sophomore forward Jack Brown knew what he had to do. Mike Kempski had driven into the lane, attracting three Green Knights defenders, when he kicked the ball out to Brown beyond the three-point line.

Brown calmly squared up and released the ball, which swished through the net a second later, and the Sals had a 39-37 lead with 33.2 seconds to go. The Sals played the necessary defense on Mount’s final two possessions, and they escaped with an upset road win over the state’s top-ranked team on Feb. 4 in front of a raucous, sold-out crowd. Solid second half, strong free-throw shooting carry Sals past Spartans

MILLTOWN – Down a point to St. Mark’s at halftime, the Salesianum boys basketball team felt pretty good about how they were playing and just needed some shots to start falling. That is precisely what happened in the third and fourth quarters as the Sals grabbed a road victory over the Spartans, 56-39, on Jan. 20.

The Spartans held an 18-17 advantage at the break, but that didn’t last long. Salesianum forward Paul Brown took the opening possession of the third quarter and converted an old-fashioned three-point play to give the Sals the lead for good. Brown wasn’t done, making two free throws and a field goal in the first minutes of the second half to push the Sals’ lead to 24-18. Those six points were part of a 13-2 run to open the third as the advantage grew to 30-20. Read more »

WILMINGTON – After letting Archmere climb back into the game and go into halftime down just two, Salesianum’s basketball team came out in the third and shut the door on the Auks.
