St. Ann School welcomes furry green visitor

WILMINGTON — Students at St. Ann’s School got to travel back in time on Feb. 7 with the help of a special friend. The Phillie Phanatic visited Wilmington to help tell the story in his book, “The Phillie Phanatic’s Philadelphia Story.”

The Phanatic came to St. Ann’s because the fifth grade performed superbly in the “Phanatic About Reading” challenge. Lots of red was visible in the gymnasium when the furry green visitor from the Galapagos Islands entered to loud applause and cheering. Read more »

Phanatic visits St. Peter’s to reward voracious readers

NEW CASTLE – April 20 was an off-day for the Philadelphia Phillies, giving the baseball team’s mascot an opportunity to drive his four-wheeler down to New Castle for a bit.

The Phillie Phanatic spent part of the afternoon at St. Peter the Apostle School as part of the “Be a Phanatic About Reading” program, which encourages students to read for a minimum of 15 minutes a day to improve literacy skills. Thanks to the efforts of Eric Ford’s fifth-grade class, St. Peter’s was selected for a Phanatic visit. It was originally scheduled for February but was delayed because of bad weather. Read more »

Reading ‘Phanatics’ at Our Lady of Fatima School get special visitor

 NEW CASTLE — It wasn’t Citizens Bank Park, but Our Lady of Fatima School looked and sounded like the home of the Philadelphia Phillies on March 23.

Many of the students and teachers dressed in Phillies red for the day as a special visitor took a break from spring training to reward them for their dedication to reading.
