As postseason nears, winter sports still offer key matchups

The winter sports are one fewer this week, as wrestling held its team championship meet over the weekend. Basketball enters the final full week of the regular season, while swimming concludes on Tuesday and hockey is just about done. Monday’s games, and possibly others later in the week, could be affected by weather.

Girls

Basketball

Monday

Padua (8-7) at Concord (4-13), 3:30 p.m.

Worcester Prep at St. Thomas More (12-2), 4 p.m. St. Thomas More faces its first tough test of the week against ESIAC rival Worcester Prep. The Mallards enter this game at 13-2, with one of those losses coming to St. Thomas More on Jan. 18. Olivia Lynch scored 25 in the first game for the Ravens. This could be a preview of the conference championship game, which will be played on Feb. 21.

Juniors Ber’Nyah Ward-Mayo of St. Elizabeth and Conrad’s Julie Kulesza are just two of the top-tier players who will appear in this game. Expect a sold-out and raucous Wolves Den for this one.

The Sals, meanwhile, are looking to bounce back from a loss after three straight wins.
