MILLTOWN — Three runs in the second and four more in the fourth were more than enough for Saint Mark’s pitchers Ryan Flasinski and Ian Keane, who scattered five hits in an 8-3 Spartans baseball win over Caravel on a chilly and damp April 27 at Gene Alessandrini Field.

Saint Mark’s led, 3-1, heading into the bottom of the fourth, when they batted around and plated four more. Chase Thornton walked to open the inning, and Michael Smyth roped a double down the left-field line. Caleb King, who drove in a run in the second with a single, popped up in foul territory behind first base. Bucs second baseman Aidan Alston made a sliding catch, and Thornton tagged and scored.

Shawn Satterfield followed with a ground ball to second, and Smyth beat the throw home with a head-first slide to make it 5-1. The next two batters, Zach Pruitt and Cole Sims, both walked to load the bases. Courtesy runner Tyler Sinko was forced at the plate on a ground ball for the second out, but Aidan Lehane drilled s single to left off the fielder’s glove, scoring Pruitt and Sims.

Flasinski allowed a pair of runs in the fifth, but he did strike out two more batters as he closed out his day on the mound. Keane pitched the final two innings, retiring six of the seven hitters he faced with two strikeouts.

King and Thornton both had multiple-hit games. Sims also scored two runs and drove in the game’s final run with a bloop single to right. The Spartans won their third straight to improve to 10-3. They are back at home on May 1 against Salesianum at 4 p.m.

Caravel (5-4-1) begins a three-game home stand on Wednesday against Elkton (Md.) at 7 p.m. They play six of their final eight at home under the lights.
