WILMINGTON — Ursuline and Delaware Military Academy battled for 100 minutes in a girls soccer matchup on April 8, but that was not long enough to determine a winner. Each team had a few near-misses in a scoreless draw that began in sunshine and ended under the lights at Fusco Memorial Field.

The defenses controlled much of the first half, with the ball being kept along the sidelines for the most part over the first 20 minutes. The Raiders had the better of the possession time, but every move toward the DMA goal was met with solid defense. Little got through to Seahawks keeper Jen Klumpp.

Ursuline turned up the heat as the first half progressed. The Raiders had a free kick and two corner kicks in a nine-minute span. Klumpp stopped the free kick, and she made another save following the second of the corners. DMA’s best chance of the half occurred in the 32nd minute. Sidney Zeigler collected the ball at midfield and moved forward, but Raiders keeper Julia Terzaghi came out to smother the ball near the top of the 18-yard box.

The Raiders started sending passes deep into Seahawks territory in the second half, but the Seahawks did a good job of preventing Ursuline from cashing in on those through balls. Zoe Carberry of the Raiders sent a crossing pass from Klumpp’s right into the box in the 48th, where it was deflected by a defender and rolled loose. Klumpp, however, beat the closest Raider to the ball.

Klumpp’s biggest save occurred in the 65th minute. The Raiders’ Carly Gioffre passed ahead to Carberry, whose cross went past one Ursuline attacker to a trailing player. The shot appeared ticketed for the upper right corner, but Klumpp made a leaping highlight-reel save.

Both keepers were active in the final minutes of regulation and into the two 10-minute extra sessions to ensure that this game ended without a goal.

Final statistics were not available Tuesday morning. Ursuline (1-1-1) travels to Archmere on Friday for a 3:45 p.m. start, while the Seahawks (2-1-1) welcome Newark Charter for a game at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday.
