A group of Catholics were recognized March 13 for helping achieve a record-setting total supporting local programs as part of the Faith and Charity Catholic Appeal in the Diocese of Wilmington.

About 70 people from various parishes along the Eastern Shore of Maryland joined Bishop Koenig for a prayer service and reception at Saints Peter & Paul parish in Easton, Md.

Father Michael Angeloni, associate pastor, welcomed the group.

The 2023 Shining the Light of Christ campaign raised a record $5.7 million from 13,157 donors. This fundraising success resulted in nearly $700,000 returned in rebates to fulfill needs of local parishes. Participation rose by 604 donors and contributions increased by more than $200,000.

The appeal’s success enables the diocese to assist parishes and focus on priorities diocesanwide, according to the diocese Office of Development. Catholic Charities and Catholic education are among the significant areas of Faith and Charity Catholic Appeal drives.

Sixth-grade singers from Saints Peter & Paul Elementary School performed at the reception.

The event was the last of four held in Wilmington, Dover, Lewes and Easton.
