Franciscan Sister Eleanor Horneman dies at 96, spent four years in Diocese of Wilmington

ASTON, Pa. — Sister Eleanor Horneman, formerly Sister John Magdalen, died in Assisi House on March 14. She was 96 and had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 75 years.

Sister Eleanor ministered primarily in education. She worked in New Jersey, Washington, Oregon and Maryland. She also ministered in provincial administration.

She spent 19 years in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and four years in house ministry in the Diocese of Wilmington.

All services will be held in Assisi House on Friday, March 22, and will be livestreamed. A Christian wake service will be held at 9:30 a.m. followed by viewing. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11. Interment will be at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery. Donations can be made to the Sisters of St. Francis Foundation, 609 S. Convent Road, Aston, PA 19014.
