NEWARK – Third-seeded Conrad found its offense in the second half to defeat the sixth seed, St. Elizabeth, 60-45 on March 4 at the Bob Carpenter Center in the quarterfinal round of the DIAA girls basketball tournament. St. Elizabeth overcomes persistent Pandas in regular-season finale, 59-47

WILMINGTON – St. Elizabeth’s girls basketball team let Padua back into their game Feb. 20 time and time again, with the teams tied at 32 five minutes into the third quarter. But the Vikings went on a 7-0 run to end the quarter and built up an insurmountable lead on their way to a 59-47 Catholic Conference victory at the St. E Center. Vikings ride strong second half to win over Spartans

MILLTOWN – St. Elizabeth rebounded from a sluggish first half to take control in the second half to defeat St. Mark’s, 44-35, in Catholic Conference girls basketball Thursday night. With the win, the Vikings swept the season series with the Spartans and improved to 9-2 on the season.

The Vikings trailed by six at the half, 19-13, but they turned the game around by scoring the first 11 points of the third quarter. They did so with a smothering defense that caused several turnovers, along with control of the glass on both ends. Read more »

Bromwell’s offense, Vikings defense keys win over Spartans

WILMINGTON — Alexis Bromwell scored off the opening tip, and St. Elizabeth had its full-court press working early in a 57-41 win over St. Mark’s on Jan. 21.

When the Spartans beat the press with long passes down the court, Vikings eighth-grader Julie McCarron was the eraser, registering four blocks on the evening. A three-pointer by Bromwell gave St. Elizabeth a 14-8 lead, but St. Mark’s Kendra Schweizer nailed a triple of her own to cut it to 14-11 late in the first. Sarah Metz got that back and added a two-point field goal as the Vikings led, 19-11, at the end of the first. Read more »

Vikings get balanced scoring in win over Pandas

WILMINGTON – St. Elizabeth used a 30-10 run in the second half to defeat Catholic Conference rival Padua, 71-50, on Jan. 9 at the St. E Center.

The biggest baskets during the run came from eighth-grader Julie McCarron, who hit two key three-pointers in the final minute of the third quarter. The Pandas were on a 7-0 run – all of the points coming from senior Meg Mallon – and were within 40-34. To make matters worse, the Vikings had lost junior Alanna Speaks to an injury. Read more »

Balanced scoring, stellar defense lead Vikings to season-opening win

WILMINGTON – The St Elizabeth Vikings got balanced scoring and solid defense to turn away the Woodbridge Blue Raiders, 67-34, to win their season opener.

The Lady Vikings struggled hitting shots early but forced many early turnovers, and they started to make Woodbridge pay. The Vikings went on a 11-0 run fueled by five points from Alexis Bromwell to take an early 11-2 lead. The Blue Raiders scored the last four points of the quarter, which ended with St. Elizabeth leading, 11-6. Read more »
