Dialog reporter

Padua Academy had winners in seven events, including a state-record performance from standout Lydia Olivere, as the Pandas captured their sixth straight indoor track and field state championship Feb. 3 at the Prince Georges Sports and Learning Center in Landover, Md. Salesianum used a strong performance in the field events to take home the boys’ crown it narrowly missed last season.

Padua finished with 140 points, comfortably ahead of second-place Smyrna, who had 110.5. For the Pandas, it was their 14th championship in indoor track and field. Read more »

Padua dominates at state Division I track meet, wins 16th state title

By

Despite losing the best sprinter in Delaware for much of the meet, Padua Academy had no trouble defending its Division I outdoor track and field state championship May 16 at the new Dover High School. The Pandas outdistanced their nearest competitor, Middletown, by a wide margin, collecting 199 points to the Cavaliers’ 76.

Maiya Dendy, the all-state runner headed to the University of South Carolina next year, was hobbled by a hamstring injury that may have cost her wins in two events, but the Pandas were plenty deep enough to overcome the injury. Dendy did manage two victories, in the 400-meter run and as the anchor of Padua’s 4×100 relay team (with Cameron Lucey, Darby Deutsch and Jordan Sobolesky). Read more »

WILMINGTON — Kennedy Wong is emerging as a leader at Ursuline Academy, not just on the track but in the various school clubs in which she participates and in the classroom. Not bad for a sophomore whose 16th birthday is still a few days away.

Athletically, Wong has made her mark on the cross country and indoor (winter) and outdoor (spring) track teams since eighth grade, when she started running with the varsity. She’s been racing since age 7, when she took part in her first 5K with her father, Brian.

“I guess I was at the age when I was deciding what sport I wanted to do,” she said. “I tried out soccer and karate a little bit, but running was just something that I enjoyed, so I stuck with it.”
