Christmas 2023
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
As we celebrate that moment in which God emptied Himself and took on our human flesh, may it be a time for us to grow even more aware of God’s tremendous love. May this love be a source of strength, of comfort, of peace. And as we gather at Mass on Christmas Day and throughout the Christmas Season, may we raise our hearts, minds and voices to give thanks and praise to our God whose love we celebrate this Christmas Day.
In these coming days and weeks, let us also remember that Christmas is not just the memory of an event that took place twenty centuries ago, but it has changed who we are and to what we are being called. In the words of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, through His incarnation Jesus has become “our model of holiness” and we have become “partakers in the divine nature.” Father Pierre Teilhard de Chardin once reflected on the power of the incarnation as he observed: “by virtue of Creation, and still more the incarnation, nothing here below is profane for those who know how to see.”
May this be a time for us to see. May we see, as we look at the Christmas creche displayed in our churches and in our homes, how the love of the Holy Family continues to be lived by families who despite hardship and difficulties are centered on love. May we see, as we look at the infant Jesus, shivering in the cold night air, dependent entirely upon Mary and Joseph, how God continues to be especially with the most vulnerable and those in need. May we see, as we look at “magi from the East” paying homage to the newborn King, how we too are called to go forth and bring the gift of who we are and what we have to our Lord and God and the most vulnerable in their times of need. May we look and may we see the God of Love who came to us on that first Christmas Day so that we might come to Him.
May God’s love be with you this Christmas Day. Have a Blessed and Joyous Christmas!

Navidad 2023
Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas en Cristo:
A medida que celebramos ese memento, en el cual Dios se despojó de sí mismo y tomó nuestra carne humana puede que sea el memento para nosotros crecer para ser mas aun, mas conscientes del tremendo amor de Dios. Que este amor sea una fuente de fuerza, de consuelo, y de paz.
Y mientras nos reunimos en misa el día de Navidad y durante toda la temporada navideña, podamos levantar nuestros corazones, nuestra mente y nuestras voces para dar gracias y alabar a nuestro Dios, cuyo amor nosotros celebramos este día de navidad.
En estos próximos días y semanas, recordemos tambíen que la navidad no es solo el recuerdo de un evento que ocurrió hace veinte siglos atrás, sino que ha cambiado lo que somos y cómo se nos llama. En palabras del catecismo de la iglesia Católica, a través de su encarnación, Jesus se ha convertido en modelo de santidad y nosotros nos hemes convertidos en “partícipes de la naturaleza divina.”
Padre Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, en una ocasión reflexiono sobre el poder de la encarnación mientras observaba: “por virtud de la Creación y aún más la encarnación, aquí abajo nada es profano, para aquellos que saben ver. Que este sea un memento para nosotros ver, que veamos mientras miramos el pesebre de la navidad, que se exhibe en nuestras iglesias y hogares, como el amor de la sagrada familia, continua para seguir siendo vivido por familias que ha pesar de las penurias y dificultades están centradas en el amor.
Que veamos mientras miramos al niño Jesús temblando por el aire frío de la noche, dependiendo completamente de Maria y Jose, y cómo Dios sigue siendo especial con los más vulnerables y los más necesitados. Que veamos cómo miramos a los “magos” de oriente, rindiendo homenaje al Rey recién nacido, como también, nosotros somos llamados a salir, y llevar el don de lo que somos y de lo que tenemos a nuestro Señor y Dios y a los más vulnerables en su memento de necesidad. Que miremos y veamos al Dios de amor quien vino a nosotros, en ese primer día de Navidad, para que podamos llegar a él.
