CLAYMONT —Breandan Marley scored six times, and the Auks’ defense was lights out into the fourth quarter of a 17-3 boys lacrosse win on April 25 in Claymont. The victory puts the Auks squarely in control of the Diamond State Athletic Conference.

The Force won the opening faceoff and held on to the ball for more than a minute before the Auks forced a turnover. That would be a recurring theme throughout the day, as the Auks relentlessly pursued any Charter player who ended up with possession. That, along with a patient approach on offense, helped Archmere to the win.

Marley connected for the team’s first goal with 8:21 to go in the first after a long stretch on offense. Archmere worked the ball around the perimeter for a bit, and eventually Drew Duncan hit a cutting Marley coming down the middle.

It took just 15 seconds after Charter was penalized for the Auks to strike midway through the first. This time, Duncan moved out in front of the net, and fired high after taking a pass from behind the net.

They would finish the first with five goals and were on their way. Marley scored twice on short underhand shots, and the Auks’ defense acted when called upon. They forced numerous turnovers, and goalie Zidane Brena stopped the shots that did get through.

Duncan and Aidan Mahoney each scored four goals, and Reece Millison had a pair. Brena finished with five saves. The Auks (6-4) host Delaware Military on April 30 at 3:45 p.m.

Domenick Paoli, James Moen and Michael Stella each scored for the Force, who fell to 7-2. Charter hosts Milford on April 30 at 3:30 p.m.
