WILMINGTON — Salesianum opened up a big lead against Milford, primarily in the lighter weight classes, on the way to a 46-30 win in the quarterfinal round of the DIAA Division I wrestling tournament on Feb. 14 at Father Birkenheuer Gymnasium. The Sals, seeded second in the eight-team field, will take on No. 3 Cape Henlopen on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Smyrna High School in the semifinals.
After a decision for Cameron Black over Milford’s Josue Villareal Gomez at 285 lbs., the Sals recorded three straight falls. They earned a major decision at 126, followed by a Buccaneers forfeit and another pin. Chase Thompson’s decision at 144 extended the lead to 40-0.
Milford recorded falls in four of the final five weight classes.
The Sals are the defending Division I state champions. They did not wrestle Cape Henlopen in a dual meet this season. Tickets for the match against Cape must be purchased online at gofan.co/app/school/DIAA.
