$8 million renovations of 108 housing units for elderly to be completed this year

 

In 1981, it cost $3.1 million to build Marydale Retirement Village, the 108-apartment retirement community off Salem Church Road in Newark.

Thirty-six years later, a complete renovation of the 18-acre complex, managed by the Diocese of Wilmington’s Catholic Charities through Catholic Ministry to the Elderly Inc., costs more than $8 million.

The renovation project, a complex operation that’s been underway for the past 12 months, is expected to be completed by the end of the year. Read more »

Jessica, 25, said she’s been “a lost soul” for 10 years, a decade when she was sleeping under bridges and associating with people “who were poisonous to me.”

The mother of three and cancer survivor said she hit rock bottom two years ago when she lost custody of a daughter.

Help feed the hungry during ‘Stock the Pantry’ month

WILMINGTON – February is traditional “Stock the Pantry” month for Catholic Charities, and the organization is again asking the community to help those in the community who depend on Catholic Charities for food.

Donations of nonperishable food, grocery store gift cards or cash donations may be made at all Catholic Charities locations in February during regular business hours.
